mkgmap uses style files to decide what to show and what not to show. You can add customized symbols for your waypoints. Their xImage program also required symbols to have certain names but could. You can then load these into MapSource or onto your GPS. Custom Waypoint Symbols Note: At the time this was written, MapSource required symbols to have certain names and be in a specific directory (folder). Fixed an issue with performing address searches. Fixed an issue with route travel time calculations.
Fixed an issue where the ‘anchor’ waypoint symbol was displayed incorrectly. Fixed an issue with opening gdb files containing routes with identical names. Mkgmap takes OSM data, and creates IMG files. Fixed transfer from and to Garmin Mobile PC devices. You could go to the Cloudmade website and see yet another version of the same underlying OSM data (and indeed, on Cloudmade you can really get your hands dirty and change the style to your heart's content).
Each renderer produces a different looking map because it decides what to show, what not to show, and how to show it. If you click the + sign in the top right, you can change renderer (e.g.
Mapnik is not OSM, it is just a renderer.
What you see on the OSM website is a rendering of that data, by default done using a piece of software called Mapnik. I think you're confusing a few things here. Any Idea where I could find the "default" settings file that OSM uses to create the maps they send me? What do I need to use as a settings file? the maps I get from OSM Download are fine for my purposes, I feel no prese nt need to modify them during the compile process. gdb file, that was created with data uploaded into MapSource AFTER it was updated with the new 6.Are those the correct files to hand to mkgmap? i'd reaally like to crack th code and compile maps myself, so long as I dont end up breaking my mapsource installation. Then I had to rename each of those files as simply "xxx.bmp".Įxample: I copied my "Waypoint Symbol 001.bmp" from xImage and put it into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Garmin\Custom Waypoint Symbols folder, and then renamed it as "001.bmp" So I deleted those eight files, and replaced them with copies of my xImage "Waypoint Symbol xxx.bmp" files. I only have 8 waypoints using custom waypoint symbols in my GPSr right now.Įach of those eight files were simple blue circles. So, after I sent my waypoints to MapSource, I found the following files in my C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Garmin\Custom Waypoint Symbols folder:Ġ00.bmp, 001.bmp, 002.bmp, 003.bmp, 004.bmp, 005.bmp, 006.bmp and 007.bmp For some reason, Garmin has named the corresponding waypoint filenames for the MapSource side as simply "xxx.bmp" In xImage, the custom waypoints are named "Waypoint Symbol xxx.bmp". In my case, having Windows 2000 and logged on as "Administrator", the waypoint icon bitmaps are stored inĬ:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Garmin\Custom Waypoint Symbols When the customized waypoints are downloaded to the computer, new folders are created in the "My Documents" folder for whichever profile you're logged onto the computer as.
So is there a way to install Custom Waypoints to MAPSOURCE What I'm looking for is to send "the Custom Waypoints" from GSAK to Mapsend or from mygps with the same symbolsĪll Mapsource shows from the gps is the black square waypoint markĪnd from GSAK I cannot send any of the custom waypoints at all I have used Ximage copied them to the My Garmin file and installed them to the garmin 60cs
